What are the symptoms of Graves’s disease?

Grave’s disease results due to the overproduction of hormone thyrotoxicosis. This overproduction of the hormone can lead to a metabolic disproportion. Hence, this condition is also referred as an autoimmune disease. The disease is eight times more common in females as compared to males. Major causes of Grave’s disease are the infection. It can even be due to some mental or emotional stresses.

Normally, Graves’s Disease can occur between the age of 20 and 40. In some of the cases, it runs in the families due to its familial tendency. The disease arouses the thyroid glands to malfunction by producing autoantibodies in thyroid cell membrane.

Some of the major symptoms of the disease are similar to those, which you will find in hyperthyroidism. The most prominent symptoms include Goiter (swelling of the thyroid gland around the neck area), sudden weight loss, severe sweating, heat intolerance, palpitations and swelling of the tissues behind the individual eyeballs. Apart from these, there are other symptoms too, which include diarrhea and tremors.

Above-mentioned symptoms are the most common symptoms of the Grave’s disease, which are observed in almost every patient, who is suffering from the disease. Other than these common indications, you can even come across shortness of breath, weakness and dizziness. In some of the cases, Pretibial myxedema is also observed. This is a condition where the skin becomes thick, lumpy and reddish in color.

Grave’s Disease can also have an affect on the vision and eyesight of the patient, as he or she may suffer from double vision. There can even be an increased eye tearing. In females, the symptoms of Grave’s Disease may involve irregular menstrual cycle and enlarged breast size as well. The disease may diminish sex drive in both males and females. Other Symptoms include brittle nails and rapid hair loss.
