Located at the continental divide, which is about 110 mile to the north from San Jose, Monteverde Cloud Forest crosses Santa Elena Reserve and Monteverde Biological Cloud Forest Reserve. Both these reserves also protect the forest.


Monteverde Cloud Forest is amongst the popular inland tourist destination in Costa Rica. Its forest reserves are pretty rich when it comes to the ecological diversity. At the same time, they have a huge population of wildlife. In addition, this forest has a birding paradise. It is believed that it has around 1,000 resplendent quetzals.

They worked with World Wildlife Fund and the Nature Conservancy to fend off the challenges posed by the Squatters and other calamities. Quakers bought 328 hectares of land adjacent to the land that they already preserved. This new Reserve was given the name Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve. Further down the line, the land was expanded with funds coming from different communities. Today, Monteverde Cloud Forest has 10,500 hectares of area.
